Test drive Peugeot 2008: when "less" is "more" - part 4
Is there any innovation in the Peugeot 2008?
At first glance, the Peugeot 2008 crossover does not offer anything revolutionary or disruptive for buyers. So, the basis of the car is the CMP platform, which is already known from other models of the PSA Group (for example, the Opel Corsa). In this case, an independent suspension at the front and a semi-independent at the rear are used, the drive is always front-wheel drive (there are no four-wheel drive versions either in Ukraine or in the world). Under the hood are 3-cylinder petrol engines or 4-cylinder diesel engines, all turbocharged. An interesting feature is the Peugeot e-2008 electric car, but it has not yet been announced for Ukraine. By the way, the presence of different versions according to the type of power units - gasoline, diesel, electric - allows the creators to call the CMP platform multi-energy, especially emphasizing that the assembly of different modifications occurs on the same conveyor. Yes, it is neither cold nor hot for an ordinary buyer. However, from a manufacturer's point of view, this is indeed a significant breakthrough.
But the "breakthrough" for the buyer is the presence of a powerful 155-horsepower engine: still a 3-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine (just don't ask me about the resource, okay?), Which combines direct fuel injection and a turbine for air boost ... The motor belongs to the PureTech family, which has won the Engine of the Year competition several times in its category. Moreover, the PureTech 155 variant is a feature of the Peugeot 2008 crossover and is not available for the regular Peugeot 208 hatchback (at least not yet). Also, a feature of the Peugeot 2008 model is the Grip Control system (the choice of driving modes "eco / sport / sand / snow", etc.) and the HADC function to help when descending the slope - the minimum preparation for light off-road is still carried out.
The Peugeot 2008 model is built on the basis of a new CMP platform, which made it possible to lighten the car by 30 kg relative to its predecessor (for comparable versions). On the Ukrainian market, the car is offered with a BlueHDi turbodiesel or gasoline engines of the PureTech family - the latter with a capacity of 155 hp. (240 Nm) is a kind of exclusive for the 2008 model. Plus, it also works in tandem with the most modern 8-speed. "Automatic" EAT8 (similar is available for a diesel engine, but a 130-horsepower gasoline engine costs 6-speed automatic EAT6). Grip Control gives you a choice of driving modes for asphalt, and also allows you to tune the car for off-roading. When choosing the positions "Snow", "Sand", "Mud", the logic of the traction control system changes, it flexibly controls the right / left wheel and allows them to slip for self-cleaning of the tread (first described using the example of Peugeot 3008).
