Test drive Peugeot 2008: when "less" is "more" - part 5

... Starting from the adaptive cruise, continuing with the automatic braking system, ending with the function of monitoring the “blind spots” of the rear-view mirrors (all this equipment depends on the selected version or additionally ordered options). However, I would especially like to mention the lane control system, I’ll say even more precisely - “Lane Positioning Assist”. This system not only monitors the movement within its lane and corrects leaving it, but actively tries to align the car in the center of the lane. As a result, the system allows you to drive gently sloping left / right track deviations, and also compensates, for example, a crosswind. Yes, good road markings are required and you need to keep your hands on the wheel at all times. But all the same, such technology greatly facilitates long trips, gives the driver a little relaxation. And if you add an adaptive cruise with a full stop function, then you get a semi-autonomous entry-level control.

I admit that a combination of such systems can achieve a similar effect in many modern cars of this class. But what they definitely don't have is the Peugeot i-Cockpit 3D interior. The special dashboard in the new Peugeot 2008 is not just digital, but also multi-layered: data is displayed at different depth levels, like a 3D picture in a movie theater. The basis of the dashboard is a 10.25-inch color display, in front of which (at a distance of about 15 mm) is a translucent panel. And already other information is projected onto it - from the 7-inch display located on the top cover. Moreover, the information changes constantly, but the logic remains unchanged: more important indicators (speed, engine speed, navigation indicator) are drawn larger and are located closer to the driver; but the secondary information (tachometer scale, backing card) is slightly smaller and located one level below, further from the driver. The design is complex, but it works great and looks beautiful, it really is one of the strongest "wow" factors of the new Peugeot 2008.

The Peugeot i — Cockpit 3D dashboard is something unforgettable: a three-dimensional color "dashboard" created on the basis of two color displays. Several options for displaying information are offered for the driver, but the possibility of separating data by importance is always used to the maximum: the primary ones are displayed closer to the driver, the secondary ones - further away. It is interesting that the side "ears" are also used: to indicate the turn signal or service indicators. In general, I caught myself thinking that Peugeot is one of the few manufacturers who dares to “reinvent the car interior”: the i-Cockpit concept becomes more interesting and daring with each new model.
