Galaxy Buds Live - Samsung's first TWS earbuds with active noise canceling

Samsung continues to expand its line of fully wireless earbuds by unveiling a new model in an unusual form factor called Galaxy Buds Live at Galaxy Unpacked 2020. At the same time, these are the first TWS headphones of the company equipped with an active noise canceling system.

But it's worth starting with the design of Buds Live, it turned out to be really unusual due to the shape of the case. The emitters here look like the seeds of leguminous plants, apparently, they were the inspiration for Samsung designers. But instead of evaluating the conventional beauty of such a solution, I would like to point out that this shape is ergonomic and follows the cavity of the auricle.

On the inside of the Buds Live speakers, there are small, interchangeable cartilage anchors that provide a more secure fit than the earbuds. But the latter is not as dense as in in-channel models, therefore, on the one hand, they immediately cut off less external noise, but on the other hand, the level of comfort during use is still higher here. This may especially appeal to those users for whom in-ear headphones create discomfort when listening to music for a long time.

Coming back to the design, it's worth noting that the Buds Live comes in three colors: copper, black and white. The first two have a mirror finish that changes color slightly depending on the lighting, while the latter are just glossy.

 The dimensions of the headphones are 6.5 x 27.3 x 14.9 mm, and weigh 5.6 grams. They come with a charging case with a built-in 472 mAh battery, measuring 50 x 50.2 x 27.8 mm and weighing 42.2 grams.

The Galaxy Buds Live are IPX2 water resistant, which means they are sweat-proof and can be used during workouts, but you can't swim in them, let alone submerge them.

Headphones are connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0, and for music playback they support SSC (Samsung Scalable Codec), AAC and SBC codecs. They also use an accelerometer, a Hall sensor, a separate VPU (Voice Pickup Unit) module for separating speech from ambient noise, an infrared sensor and external touch panels for control.

Sound reproduction in Buds Live is handled by 12mm speakers tuned by AKG specialists. Based on a short introduction, they sound good, with a slightly wider imaginary scene than the Galaxy Buds + and more accentuated low end.
